Kapok Tree Flowers
These pictures don't begin to show how thrilled I am that this giant Kapok tree is blooming. The last time it bloomed was five years ago, shortly after we arrived on the property. At the time I didn't realize that these trees bloom only occasionally, every 4 or 5 years.
The pretty pink flowers littered the trail under the tree for several days. Now I await the big seed pods that are full of soft fluffy fiber. Last time this happened the wind carried plumes of fluff through the sky and I collected many seeds as they fell to the ground. The seeds were planted and we now have dozens of more of these trees growing in the property.
