Once a year our worker does a "chop and drop" of the vegetation growing in the food forest area. Leaving the chopped plants on the ground helps return nutrients to the soil. The morning after this task was complete I went to this area to harvest some oregano when I saw this unusual sight on the roots of an upturned plant. The morning was new and the sun hadn't warmed things up yet resulting in these butterflies being very still. I have never seen a group like this so motionless.
