My chickens spend a lot of time in the paddocks scratching. They use their sharp claws to scratch the dirt in search of edible treasures. The picture above is what the food bowl in the coop looks like at the end of the day. Their scratching trait is so strong that they do it when eating from the food container. They give a scratch in the sawdust with both feet and then head down in the food bowl. I chuckle every time I see them do that.
