Chachalacas in Puriscal

flock of chachalacas in distance
I had to get the telephoto lens out for this shot. On the ground are several chachalacas. Many trees near our house are full of small fruits these birds love. They return every year to feast until the food is gone. They are extremely skittish and fly away whenever they see me. Just about every day they spend some time on the ground between the Chicken Palace and the galeron. I wondered why they did that and this year I realized they are taking a dust bath in the dry dirt. When provoked the large group of birds chatter up a very noisy storm.
