Yami Tuber

yami tuber
A few days ago I harvested this large edible tuber that I grew in the garden. It measured half a meter wide and 40cm tall and weighed about 8 kilos! I have seen ones way larger for sale at the farmer's market. It's known as yami around here. I grew it from the seeds that are produced on the leafy vine that grows above ground. We ate some yesterday and it was delicious. It tastes similar to a potato. It looks like this is the last blog entry for the year so we will go out with a yami and look forward to 2014 which should be the year of the chicken egg for us. My girls haven't begin laying yet, I think it's due to the shorter days leading up to the solstice.

Happy New Year!
