Wood House, Jicarillo Tree, Rio Viejo

I noticed that photos are building up in my "to post" folder. I thought I would share a few. Above is a picture of an old traditional wooden house. I have been surprised to see quite a few of these homes that have withstood time and nature. They generally do not have glass windows and have a dirt floor. I've talked with some Ticos that say they would prefer to live in this type of house instead of the more modern concrete structures.

Jicarillo treeThis is the fruit from the Jicarillo tree. The gourd like fruit can be used for making decorative items such as bowls and cups. A while back one of the workers brought back two sticks from this tree and planted them on our property.
