I really enjoy watching my ladies take a dust bath. In order to watch them I have to very quietly sneak up to the viewing location. Once they see me they always stop whatever they are doing and run to me in anticipation of treats.
This day I happened to have the camera with me and managed to get a few pictures. They bathe by using their feet to kick up dirt onto their body. They not only flick the dirt but also roll in it and perform many maneuvers with their wings and tail feathers to ensure every inch has been covered with the dust.
This chicken finally saw me and ended the bath by shaking off all the dust. They repeat the process daily, as long as there is dry dirt in the paddock.
