This snake and I were equally surprised to see each other. I was walking down the path as he was crossing it. I could have kept going, however the snake froze and hid his head under the leaves so I chose to stop and take a picture. I have seen this type of snake before and it always does the same thing, freeze and hide its head even though the body is fully exposed. I treat all snakes as venomous and gingerly walked around him. He was about 18 inches long.
