Garden Update after 2021 Rainy Season

I'm happy to report that for the first time I successfully grew vegetables during the entire rainy season. I read online that it was possible to propagate kale plants from cuttings, or even better from babies they sometimes grow along the stem. During my experiments last summer I let the kale plants grow hoping for seeds but that didn't happen. I was able to extract dozens of baby plants that were growing from the large stalk of the old plants. I put the young plants in small containers of dirt until they grew enough roots.

I ended up with so many kale plants that I gave some away. Above is a photo of how the garden currently looks. The kale plants did really well through the rainy season. I also grew a couple of collard plants, mustard greens, chicory, okra, chard, malabar spinach, yard long green beans and chayote. The chayote vine is off to the right of this photo. It has become so large that it now shades out the garden area below. That's OK. I can grow enough for us to eat in the other raised beds.

Here's another angle of the raised beds. In the foreground are small lettuce plants that were recently transplanted. I think I was successful growing through the entire rainy season because I grew less plants that were spaced farther apart. I am super happy about being able to continue the kale plants without seeds. Hopefully I can keep that going for a long time.
