Count Your Blessings

Thirteen years in Cost Rica and the month of December still feels peculiar. The seasons change from wet to dry, the trees drop their leaves and some produce colorful flowers. The mornings are chilly and the afternoons hot. The river's flow reduces and I can cross in my boots. It's a month of transformation in Puriscal.

In my younger years, mom would tell me to "count your blessings!" I usually heard those words after throwing a tantrum about something now long forgotten. I remember one time in tears, asking her what was the meaning of those words. I don't recall receiving an answer, however the phrase stuck with me.

I don't know when I became aware of the meaning of "count your blessings", but it's a good habit to have. During the last year I found myself reflecting a lot on all of the good things in my life. I am grateful to have a long list of blessings received on my list. I wish you the best for the new year and I hope you will be able to focus on the good and beauty in your life.
