Cedro Tree

cedro tree
This is another of my favorite trees. It's a big tropical cedar. The cedar trees here are different from the ones in the Pacific Northwest. This variety has leaves that are shed once a year in the dry season. The wood is similar, it is aromatic and deters insects. This was the building material of choice for the old timers that built wooden houses. Some of the old cedar houses in Costa Rica are many decades if not 100 years old and still standing.
