I see this type of lizard every day. They are plentiful. Recently they have been digging and then covering up holes in the soft dry dirt next to the patio. I saw one of the lizards reopening an existing hole. I curiously watched as he would only dig so far for his head to get in, then he would shimmy his tail and pull his head out of the hole. This was repeated several times. I thought to myself he isn't a very good hole digger. Soon after that thought a second smaller lizard came out of the hole. Immediately the male jumped on her back. I guess the semi hole digging and tail shimmy was part of the mating ritual.
